An OPG and lateral cephalogram are specialised x-ray images of your teeth and jaw to determine the number and health of your teeth, their position and growth, or assess the current and future relationship of the jaw, helpful in planning of orthodontic treatments.
You may be asked to remove jewellery around your mouth and face, as well as any dentures before the procedure can begin. The radiographer will then position your chin in the OPG machine which moves around your jaw and takes an image. You will not feel anything whilst the image is taken, and there are no after effects.
It is important to notify staff prior to the procedure if you believe you could be pregnant as even low doses of radiation can be harmful to unborn babies.
All dental x-rays are reported by our radiologists the same day, at which point the doctor who requested the procedure will receive the result electronically.
If it is urgent, please notify staff so we can report it as soon as possible, and phone the result to the requesting doctor.
Appointments are not necessary for OPG and dental examinations and can be performed anytime during Clarity opening hours.
